OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM OCCUPYGHANA, RE: George Nenyi Issiw Andah

OccupyGhana has received formal communication from one of its founding leaders, Nenyi George Andah, of his decision to contest parliamentary primaries, and hopefully, the parliamentary elections. This comes at a time when Ghanaians have to grapple with extreme discomfort, lowered productivity, the ever-rising rate of inflation, absolutely inexplicable power cuts, a continuous loss of their purchasing power, limited access to essential services such as quality education and healthcare, and poor quality of service provided by utility companies among others, and with many companies and entrepreneurs being driven out of business.

OccupyGhana has, since its inception, been fighting for good governance, good leadership direction and proper economic management to ensure that Ghana develops to its true social and economic potentials. OccupyGhana firmly believes a lack of good leadership is Ghana's biggest problem. Good institutions are important, but we need strong leaders to build those strong institutions. We are therefore pleased that one of our members has taken a bold step towards further participation in the development of our nation by entering active politics.

OccupyGhana believes that across the different divides and wedges that 'separate' us in this our one Ghana, we ALL want to see positive change and to ensure that Ghana develops to its full economic potential!

OccupyGhana therefore believes that George’s decision to enter into frontline politics opens up a new chapter for the credibility of OccupyGhana, as George's sterling leadership qualities and principles, which have helped bring us this far, are hopefully now going to be made available to Ghana at another level: Parliament.

Nenyi George Andah wrote to us saying: “Some of us have had to come out and take a stand for God and Country, realizing that sitting on the fence is no longer an option. I know we are no angels, but I can say that I will do what I have to do for God and Country. My stand is that I have never denied the party I support and vote for, or the presidential candidate I believe in and the party whose ideologies I endorse. Yet the non-partisan OccupyGhana gave me the opportunity to identify with, and be a part of, a strong group of responsible Ghanaians who believe in good governance and are fighting for Ghana to develop to its true socio-economic potential, irrespective of our various, individual party preferences or biases (and even the lack of such preferences and biases.) OccupyGhana yearns to see a Ghana where right and wrong are assessed and corrected by people who put the nation first, and come from all persuasions - political, religious, ethnic, etc., and I am proud to have been given the opportunity to serve in OccupyGhana’s leadership.”

OccupyGhana is equally satisfied and excited that George has decided to take his rare qualities another step, this time into mainstream politics to occupy Parliament in order to help change the dwindling fortunes of this country. Ghana is richer for a person like him making a sacrifice of leadership. Who is better placed to help Ghana work, than one of our own in the forefront? People like George make us believe Ghana will work again.

OccupyGhana will always encourage any member who wants to contribute to the development of Ghana irrespective of the party s/he supports. We know that s/he will be guided by the ethics, principles and values of OccupyGhana.

Some might think that George's decision is a loss to OccupyGhana. But we see it as a blessing because we believe this gives him the opportunity to have direct influence in making sure Ghana works. We believe, that as a member of OccupyGhana, George will be guided by the ethics, principles, values and qualities of OccupyGhana, and make a significant, positive impact that will make Ghana work; indeed, we promise George that as a member of OccupyGhana, we SHALL hold him to that task. At the end of the day, it should be Ghana first, before party, and self.

We wish our colleague George, Godspeed and success as he opens another chapter in his life to Occupy for God and Country!
