NPP Gurus Storm Kumasi For Demo

THERE WAS an unusual vehicular traffic yesterday in Kumasi, venue of today’s ‘Ya Ye Den Demonstration’ against government.
What caused the massive vehicular traffic in most parts of the city was not immediately known.
Most of the people that DAILY GUIDE spoke to were of the view that the upcoming demonstration might have caused the traffic.
Top NPP members in Kumasi have continually stated that people from other regions would visit Kumasi on Tuesday to take part in the protest march.
Leading members of the party yesterday left Accra for the Ashanti Regional capital to prepare themselves to partake in the demonstration against bad leadership in the country.
Scores of people who spoke to the paper on Monday admitted that they had seen different faces in the city. They said they had also seen more vehicles and so they suspected that many people had invaded the city, perhaps for today’s demonstration.

Meanwhile, the much-talked-about ‘Ya Ye Den Demonstration’ had gathered more momentum. Virtually all the radio stations in Kumasi dedicated their programmes to hype the demonstration.
Several NPP big wigs, including MPs, were seen moving from one radio station to another, talking about the event. The NPP MPs also explained to the people that the NDC government was leading the country into a ditch and must therefore be checked.
They were of the view that the Ashanti Region was not being treated fairly by the government, especially relating to the erratic power supply situation.
They particularly expressed concern over the capitation system of the National Health Insurance Scheme, being piloted in the region, which they claimed was sending more people to their graves.
They therefore urged the people to attend the big event in their numbers to send a strong signal to government that it was under- performing.

In a related development, the NDC also sent a strong team of experienced politicians to the Ashanti Region over the weekend.
Led by Deputy Sport Minister, Joseph Yammin, the team also visited the radio stations in the city lambasting the organizers of the proposed demonstration.
They were of the view that the upcoming ‘Ya Ye Den Demonstration’ was tribal in nature.

Economic activities in the Ashanti Regional capital of Kumasi have grounded to a halt following a massive demonstration by the opposition New Patriotic Party and other concerned residents of the city.
The demonstration is register discontent over some happenings in the region. The demonstrators are unhappy with erratic power supply in the Ashanti Region.

Dubbed “Ya Y3 De3n” demonstration, the exercise is to protest against the ongoing piloting of the capitation policy of the health insurance.
There are fears security could break down as the regional police commander has threatened to withdraw his men following refusal by the demonstrators to obey intructions and designated routs.
